Ellison Screaming Eagle Band Chaperone Duties and Responsibilities
1. Chaperones must ride the bus to gain access to the event, unless you are riding the truck (instruments).
2. Fill a volunteer application on KISD website. KISD employees needs to fill an application too.
3. Chaperones must comply with all the EHS and KISD Band policies including those regarding the prohibition of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and appropriate language.
4. If after signing up to chaperone, you are not able to attend, please contact the Chaperone Director so that she might find a substitute. You can write an email to ehsbbi@gmail.com
5. Check in with the Chaperone Director or the Board Member assigned for the day upon arrival at band hall and pick up badge
6. Chaperones may be asked to arrive before departure to assist with pre-departure logistics.
-You will be assigned a bus for the event.
-You will receive a First Aid Chaperone Box (one per bus)
-You will receive a sign with the bus number. This sign must be taped to the first window (right side) on the bus.
-You will receive a list with the name of students riding your bus.
7. Chaperones assist in loading and unloading the equipment truck and sometimes the bus (which includes instruments, ice chests, rain ponchos, water coolers, etc)
8. Chaperone assist students with their uniforms or with any problem that may arise while in the band hall.
9. Chaperones must inspect students’ uniforms as students load the bus. Check students are wearing long black socks. Verify that students are not carrying any food, juice or candy inside the hat boxes. In the case that is a long trip and students are allowed to carry food, we will let you know.
10. Chaperones will make sure that roll is taken by the leader on the bus prior to any departure, making sure that every student and adult is accounted for.
11. Band students of chaperones will be treated the same as all other students.
Golden Rule: “Don’t do for one student what you can’t do for all students”.
12. The authority of chaperones is limited to general supervision of students and to guide and assist the students with safety and appropriate behavior. If you have a problem with any student not following directions or showing respect, report to the Chaperone Director or Board member who will see the band directors immediately. All discipline problems will be handled by the band directors.
-Students will be seated when the bus in in motion.
-Students are to be dressed properly before exiting the bus. Partial or full uniforms will be at
the discretion of the band directors.
-Students will refrain from PDA (public display of affection), inappropriate language, and follow
other rules of conduct expected of them during a band function.
13. Chaperones are to remain in the band area during the football games unless accompanying students to the restroom. If you have an emergency and need to leave the band area, notify another chaperone.
14. Parents, family members and friends are NOT allowed in the band area at the football games as it is reserved for band members and chaperones only. Please be reminded that your children who are not band members are not to be brought with you when you chaperone.
15. Chaperones accompany students to the restrooms (four to five students at a time). Remind the students that there is no stopping to visit with family and friends.
16. Chaperones will start providing students with water as soon as the band is on the stands. Chaperones will collect cups and any trash at the beginning of the last quarter. There is no food, drink (other than water) or gum in the band seating area.
17. Chaperones are to assist with cleaning the band area after the football game while the students are loading the bus (take ice chest down the stands, put away band banners, verify no instruments, binders, or other equipment are left behind.
18. Chaperones make sure that students collect any trash from the bus upon arrival back at the school.
19. . Upon return to Ellison High School, chaperones are to assist as needed and will be released when all duties are completed. Chaperones will turn in badges, bus sign, and First Aid Chaperone Box to the Chaperone Director or Board Member assigned.
20. At all times, Chaperones should be mindful of what is happening and monitor to ensure we have a positive and fun experience.
